RT Nagar (Rabindranath Tagore Nagar) is located in the heart of the city of Bangalore. It is adjoining the Bangalore Palace on one side. At the beginning of the RT Nagar, there are mostly very wealthy residents; mainly Judges and Advocates. If we move slightly away from the tip of RT Nagar adjoining the Bangalore Palace, the place is home to middle and lower class Indians; and many Muslim people. These areas are relatively filthy and unhygienic.
Recently, in our neighbourhood, 2 Super Markets have opened. Soon after, there were ATMs of leading Banks planted here. The Super Markets are flooded with people. The traditional Grocery Stores are taking a hit. The Super Markets provide packed food items from leading brands. The traditional Grocery Stores provide Rice and Wheat, etc. mainly as loose items and can be purchased in any denominations; which is not possible from the Super Markets.
Much more recently, I notice that in our neighbourhood, farmers are placing fresh food items directly from fields and selling them in the open fields. In response, the Super Markets are selling freshly procured vegetables and fruits procured from the Central Bangalore Wholesale Markets (KR Market).
Now, I need studying whether the local farmers are being preferred or people are tending to buy more from the Super Market. The Super Markets are neat and clean and lead towards more beautiful neighbourhood without compromise on the quality of food. The farmers selling can lead to encroachment of land and lead to slums in the neighbourhood. It is difficult for me to understand the decision of the local administration in their experiment. However, I will study this over the next 1 year.
